 Top 3 French Ski Resorts

When choosing where to go for your ski holiday in france, its important to find out first how well suited the resort is to your skill level. If anyone in your family and group is new to skiing, make sure you know where to go that would provide appropriate slopes for them. With that in mind, here are the top 3 French ski resorts for beginners.

Alpe d’Huez

Alpe d Huez is nicknamed Lelle au Soliel or the island in the sun which is very telling for its characteristically sunny weather throughout the season. Alpe d Huez ski resort boasts the fifth largest skiing area encompassing the villages of Vaujany, Oz, Villard-Reculas and Auris-en-Osians, making a total of 200km of ski slopes for visitors to enjoy. The huge skiing area is perfect for mixed ability groups, and the ski school is famous for its teaching quality and range of languages making this an ideal resort to visit for beginners. And if you get tired of skiing, there’s plenty more to do including a large outdoor pool and ice skating rink.

La Plagne

La Plagne is a collection of 10 small villages situated in the Savoie French Alps. Each village is purpose built comprising shops, bars, restaurants, ski schools and children’s villages making this a perfect destination for a family ski holiday. If you’re going in a mixed ability group and have a daredevil among you, it is also home to an Olympic Bobsleigh run with a top speed of 134km/h. With the introduction of the new Paradiski area linking La Plagne and neighbouring Les Arcs, there is now an astonishing 425km of downhill slopes to play with, meaning there are slopes for all ages and abilities.

Les Arcs

Last but by no means least, La Plagne’s neighbour, Les Arcs, linked together to create the enormous Paradiski area is a modern resort based around 4 different villages, each named by their height with an individual character. Arc 1600 is filled with glorious tree runs, while Arc 1800 and 2000 have big, wide open slopes that are perfect for intermediates. Experts are catered for with plenty of off-piste options and a 7km black run. Les Arcs triumphs in having such a large ski area appropriate for all abilities, which never gets too busy due to its size.
