Senegal is a surfer’s paradise come true. The Almadies Peninsula, just outside Dakar has the largest swell window of the Senegal coastline this means that swells can appear from the South East all the way round to direct North which is an incredible surf window. Senegal has been likened to that of California many times and it does not disappoint as it delivers superior African quality surf and offers you the chance to truly enjoy the culture and teh surf in one easy melting pot. The surf here is hard to beat at times with classic waves in very warm water offering the perfect surfing experience.
Our featured experience is within a short distance of a number of world class surf beaches and surf spots. Just think about it, one side could be onshore and the other offshore and you just walk to the next spot… it’s as simple as that and we think this makes Senegal an amazing surf destination.
The surf in Senegal breaks crisp, fast and with lots of power but are relatively easy to get into and of course lots of barrel either left or right depending on your break, and there are so many breaks to choose from.
Most Surfers who visit Senegal with Pure Vacations do so knowing that this spot was featured in the original surf and most famous surf movie of all time "Endless Summer". Bruce Brown came here in the 1960's and found classic perfect surf and from this day forward Senegal was named as a special surf destination.
The light blue line-ups is easily accessed through our surfing experience and what beter way to travel to the line-up than in a dug out canoe with the locals chatting away... The Reefs of Senegal offer excellent shape and break very consistently with both right and left peaks common. There are also many becah breaks for beginners to enjoy.
The weather in Senegal is dry most of the time, except in July to September when the odd shower passes through. The water temp drops down to 20C in January but rises to 28C in September and October and the average surf height is 4 to 6ft and it’s the most consistent destination we travel to. This is an amazing Surf Destination!!!! Very unexplored.
Senegals surfing population exists of no more than 200 surfers for the whole country, its a real new surf destination but has been surfed for 40 years by those of us in the know!!!
The Senegal surfers and the tourism board have requested we now open up this wonderful surfing destination as much as possible, and this truly is wonderful. Surfers are welcomed with open arms by all locals.
