The Hawaiian Island
chain is a rich and rewarding surf destination, beyond
the turquoise waters, the pristine beaches and the
razor ridged mountains there's a legacy of royalty
and surfing. Hawaii is the natural home of surfing
and now Pure Vacations offers you the chance to enjoy
the luxury, power and quality of surfing the world's
most definite best waves. Our programme is based in
two surf Mecca areas of Waikiki and North Shore, offering
you the best choices of the island of Oahu.
The North Shore
There is no denying that the North Shore
of Oahu is a surfing Mecca. The North Shore is legendary
for its monumental and perfectly formed surf and it
draws an awed crowd of surfers all year long ? this
spot has a magnetism like no other surf destination
in the world. In the summer months the surf is tame
enough for beginners and intermediates to enjoy surfing
some famous spots but when winter months come the spots
come alive with the best waves the planet can deliver
and this is when the advanced and professionals take
to the surf and when the ASP professional tour arrives.
Just visiting Waimea Bay in winter when the ocean swells
pound the bay is awesome as 30 foot waves crash through.
The North Shore coast faces North West and this enables
the coastline to catch any pacific swell from 2ft to
30ft and it channels this in with precision accuracy
to the great sandy beaches and reef that make up the
North Shore . It is a spot that attracts thousands
and no matter what standard of surfer you are it is
possible to truly enjoy the surf of this region and
experience the wildness of the area.
This best time to really visit the north shore for solid sizeable surf is the
winter months of October to March and often glassy conditions can occur during
this period and the swells pass through.
Waikiki
Known in Hawaiian as ?spouting
waters?, Waikiki was
the playground for Hawaiian royalty and where they
came to surf ? thus surfing is called the sport of
Kings. Waikiki is today rich and complex blend of history,
natural beauty and contemporary comforts. You can go
for an early morning dawn patrol in the Waikiki surf
where the palms rustle softly and the chorus of birds
greets you at the beach. Then have a delicious breakfast,
relax and sit back and watch the surf roll whilst looking
at Duke Kahanamoku statue on Kuhio Beach. Then later
in the day paddle out alongside the local Waikiki beach
boys and experience the thrill of surfing in the heat
of the day with long rides that last up to 400 metres
at times. Waikiki is both a great place for beginners,
intermediates, longboarders and even the most advanced
will find a wave here that will match there standard.
At night time this area comes alive with Hula festivals,
torch light shows and a real wonderful environment
all to the sound of the local surf.
Waikiki gets swell all year round, but it comes into
its own in summer from April to September. It is then
that the south east and south west swells from the
tropics are most prevalent. Another bonus is that Waikiki
is one of the only spots worldwide that is practically
offshore year round. Waikiki is a great place to stay
if you wish nightlife, surf and fun the Hawaiian way.
Hawaii is not as expensive to travel to as you might
think and offers perhaps the best all round surfing
product in the Pure Vacations programme, we are pleased
to say that we are taking you home to the beginning
of surfing. So book now.
