Costa Rica is a superb destination for surfing. It is one of those rare countries in Central America that has two coastlines to surf, the Caribbean and the pacific, only separated by a dominating mountain backbone.
You will find Costa Rica has an exotic tropical surf climate with two seasons and enjoys year-round warm water with wave temperatures around 27 degrees Celsius (80 F) temperatures at all beaches. The wet season lasts from May to October with clear mornings and late afternoon showers, the dry season from November to April, all this amounts to great surf spots all year round. Besides surfing and exploring Costa Rica's beaches you will find many other caribbean adventures like white-water rafting, bungee jumping and jungle canopy tours.
The major swell season is April to October with perfect waves, but the clean surf season is December to April when swell from deep antic lows reach the Pacific coastline with offshore winds a common occurrence. Typically morning surfs are offshore and afternoon is light onshore.
Costa Rica is packed with national parks that protect the region's volcanoes, it is famous for great rain forests and their animal kingdom but it's the diamond-dust beaches of Costa Rica and the marine life that attract us surfers to this beautiful country. Costa Rica is a very friendly country with well-mannered people who call themselves 'Ticos' and 'Ticas'.
San Jose is the capital city and is the location of the international airport; it is centrally located, providing easy access to Pure Vacations resort in Hermosa & the Playa Dominical and surfing beaches on both coastlines. It is the centre of government, business, theatre and arts.
