Costa Rica is a superb destination for surfing and it is one of those rare mainland destinations that actually has two coastlines to surf, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Our programme is based around Tamarindo on the Pacific coast.
The major swell season is April to October, but the clean surf season is December to April when swell from deep antic lows reach the Pacific coastline with offshore winds a common occurrence. Typically morning surfs are offshore and afternoon are light onshore.
Tamarindo is the perfect laid back quality surf region that here at Pure Vacations we are so pleased to include in our programme. The surf resort itself is a wide bay with a rivermouth in the middle. At the northern end is Playa Grande which to be honest has a world class beach break and is also famous for its turtle population that will happily swim next to you in the lineup.
The resort is a small beach community that draws beach lovers, scuba divers, nature lovers, fisherman and of course surfers. It lies between two national parks and consists of one main road which lie the variety of accommodations we offer. First time visitors to Costa Rica tend to fall in love with this tropical paradise. Other activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, kayaking and horse back riding.
With a truly classic swell Tamarindo becomes alive with lots of spots all generating surf, these vary from rivermouth fast lines to beach breaks.
On a small swell you just head a little further down the coast and you will find it amping at spots like Avellana and Playa Negra.
So what's the weather like? This area has a wet, trpoical climate with high temeratures in its 30's every month. Rainfall determines seasons rather than the temperature, and the rainy season is between May to November.

The Hotel Pueblo Dorado is located just outside the heart of Tamarindo, making it an ideal location for exploring the local surf and attractions (the beach and closest surf break is within a two minute walk). This small and secluded hotel offers clean and comfortable accommodations at an affordable price. Each room offers 1, 2, or 3 twin or double beds, air conditioning, private bath with hot water shower and security box. On site amenities include pool and secure parking if you choose not to get the transfer and hire a car at the airport or pre-arrange one through us.

The Vista Villas is a surfer friendly hotel that is located on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and only 25 meters from the beach. This hotel offers 17 rooms and 16 luxury, spacious villas. Standard rooms offer two double beds, tv w/ vcr, air conditioning, telephone and a private bath w/ hot water.
All villas have a fully equipped kitchen, living/dining room, balcony w/ ocean view and anywhere from one to three private bedrooms. On site amenities include restaurant, bar swimming pool w/ wet bar, taco bar, video rentals for in room VHS. Hot water shower and security box. On site amenities include pool and private parking. Continental breakfast included.
The Cala Luna is secluded at the southern end of Tamarindo and Playa Langosta. This enchanting hotel offers 21 luxury villas and 20 deluxe hotel rooms and by far stands in a class of its own. Villas are equipped w/ one, two or three bedrooms each w/ king size beds, air conditioning, fans, two complete bathroom, spacious living rooms w/ sofa, dining table, satelitte tv, CD player, fully equipped kitchens with all the amenities including coffee and espresso maker, etc., and their own private pool.
Hotel rooms are equipped w/ king size beds, large bathrooms w/ jacuzzi tubs and shower, satellite tv, air conditioning, telephone and safety deposit box. On site amenities include international/local restaurant, pool bar & restaurant, large swimming pool(separate than the villas private pools), room service, laundry, babysitting, boat excursions, a friendly and professional staff always willing to help you out.
