Finish Husky Experience

For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, take charge of your own set of husky dogs for 2½ days sledding in the snow-covered Lappish wilderness. On the husky tour, stay in the heart of the nature in wilderness cabins like a true Lapp, but combine this with the comfort of a modern first class hotel at the start and end of the tour.

Day 1 (Sunday)
Individual arrival to Ivalo airport followed by a 30 minute transfer via an airport bus to your overnight hotel in the nearby village of Saariselkä. Overnight in first class hotel in Saariselkä

Day 2 and 3
Departure on husky safari After buffet breakfast at the hotel your husky tour guide will pick you up and transfer by car to the husky kennel. The staff will introduce guests to the yelping husky dogs, about the life of the huskies, and give some training how to handle the dogs and the sleds. Each guest will have full charge of their own sled and team of 4-6 huskies to drive and to take care of. Guests feed and harness their team of dogs each day and really get to know the animals.

The tours cover distances of 25-45 km per day, depending on the weather conditions, including 2½ full days with the husky teams. On the trail itself guests will experience some of Finnish Lapland's most fantastic winter landscapes as the sleds travel over snow-covered fells, frozen lakes and beautiful valleys. Wild herds of reindeer and elk are common.

Lunch is served along the route, by open fire prepared by the guide. In the evenings guests overnight in wilderness log cabins. There is no electricity in these remote locations so the heating, cooking and lighting is by log fires and candle-light. The cabins have traditional Finnish sauna to warm up in true local style. Day 4
The husky teams head back home today, and after one more lunch by open fire the kennels are reached again, and its time to bid farewell to the dogs who each guest has got to know well over the tour. Transfer back to the hotel in Saariselkä for overnight. Optional snowmobile tours can be arranged. Overnight in first class hotel in Saariselkä

Day 5
Departure for home Free time, including time for optional tours such as cross-country skiing, snow-showing , or ice fishing before transfer by bus back to the airport for onward flights home.
