Kicking Horse Backcountry Ski & Snowboard Experience

This is a very unique and special Heli ski and snowboard experience that we have aptly names "Above the clouds", because half of your 7 night stay will be at the very top of the mountains in the kicking horse area. Our Lodge is a helicopter-access only mountain resort offering exclusive winter getaways for those real keen on adventure - this is for the serious winter lover!

We will greet you personally at Calgary Airport on Saturday and transfer you in a our brand new luxurious mini coach to Kicking Horse, where you will go straight to your superb Kicking Horse accommodation, where you will receive our welcome pack with details on the area and your lift pass for the first few days etc. this is where your daily snow experience begins and the chance to enjoy the Champagne Powder of Kicking Horse. You will spend 3 nights at Kicking Horse in our lodge before the flight on Tuesday to the exclusive lodge at the top of the mountain.

On Tuesday you will be transferred by luxury mini coach from Kicking Horse to Golden Airport where you will board the helicopter for a flight to the mountain retreat. As you climb above the clouds you will see ahead of you the most beautiful setting of this purpose built lodge.

Built in 1989, the retreat lodge has since earned a reputation as the finest remote mountain lodge in North America. A traditional cedar sauna, hot showers and electricity generated from a mountain stream support exemplary guest services. From our mountaintop location on the boundary of Glacier National Park, the Lodge provides doorstep recreational opportunities and takes full advantage of the nearby accessible alpine peaks, ridges, bowls and snow meadows that characterize the spectacular wilderness of the Purcell Range.

The main floor of our timber framed lodge is spacious with large windows and a stunning viewscape that rings the living and dining areas. A central fireplace promises ambiance and the deck provides easy access for great views, as well as a place to relax in the afternoon or stargaze at night. The lodge also boast a stocked library for those seeking the quiet and comfort of a good book, and yoga mats are readily available for those wishing to stretch out in the mornings or after a great day of exercise in the outdoors.

In the evening Pure Vacations guests dine family-style at the lodge, with both staff and guests enjoying each other's company and toasting the day's adventures in the snow of which there will be many. The lodges talented chefs treat guests to three sumptuous meals a day, each made from fresh produce and local ingredients.

We have in-house ski guides for this location as it's a long way down and they offer everything from multiple peak-to-creek runs in the powder, to casual scenic tours on the snow meadows, depending on the mix of customers and the prevailing interests.

Some of our customers are first-time backcountry skiers who have had considerable downhill time on groomed slopes, but little experience in the backcountry. We pride ourselves on our ability to help our guests become competent backcountry skiers, and our ideal mix of novice, intermediate, and expert terrain facilitates that process. By having three guides on hand we are able to focus on individual ski instruction and explore a variety of terrain, and can promise you an excellent experience regardless of your ability.

Winter activities at our mountain top lodge include cross-country skiing, alpine touring, telemark skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding and for the young at heart, even tobogganing. There is terrain for every level of expertise and instruction in all sports is complimentary.

The Lodge has 10 guest rooms, all located on the third floor of the Lodge with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and mountains. Amenities include bathrobes, hairdryer, shampoos, soaps and body lotion. There are three private bathrooms and three private showers just across the hall (no room is ensuite).

At the end of your stay we transfer you down the mountain by Helicopter and then by luxury Mini Coach to Calgary Airport or less you choose for an extension in Kicking Horse Boutique Hotel (this is a possibility).
