The island of Tortola's north shore has an enviable combination of world class surfing and a number of quality surfing beaches which makes this one of the jewels of the Caribbean. The amazing location contributes to its surf character, offering a multiple of surfing options, great location and the environment is superb for a truly unique and special surfing holiday.
Apple Bay is the islands best known surfing spot and the location of Bomba Surfside Shack, a well known surfer hangout and a place to get the local swell gossip.
Further up the coast is Cane Garden Bay, the best Tortola can offer and a perfect world class ranking right hand point break and when it's working correctly is possibly the best wave you may ever enjoy surfing in your life.
The point which is located at the eastern end of the bay needs a sizable swell to really crank but when it happens it's a prime spot and delivers heavy rides some as long as 300 yards.
You will often find photographers lined up taking photo's when this spot really goes off and has a reputation similar to "Off the wall and Sunset" in Hawaii, the difference being that only 10 surfers are likely to be in the water!

Josiah's Bay on the other hand is a romantic surfers dream with surfing no higher than 6ft at best and averaging 3 to 4ft surfing it offers safe surfing conditions that are fun and enjoyable but still testing for the better surfers. Sunday here becomes a social scene to be remembered when local surfing families come down to eat on the beach, relax, and surf all day in family groups - all are welcome and you are made very welcome.
If you are looking to surf in board shorts, want to experience a fun atmosphere, great surfing, friendly locals and tropical surfing then this is the surf trip for you what ever your level you are most welcome in the British Virgin islands.
Surfing season is not as predictable as many surf zones, but if you are prepared to wait and stay a couple weeks you are sure to hit some quality swell.
The British Virgin Islands has become a secret hideaway for surfers for years, it's not the most consistent of places but it offers the opportunity of some very good surf in the most wonderful of settings in beautiful turquoise waters. If you are prepared to wait and see for the swell then this is the destination for you.

The British Virgin Islands together with its surrounding islands make up a huge semicircle curve that separates the Caribbean from the North Atlantic. The British Virgin Islands sits on the northern point of this curve and its positioning that puts it in a great place to pick up swell coming from off the northern waters.
Apple Bay (or Capoon's Bay if you ask some locals) is located close to Tortola's West End. Bomba's Shack is located here and is named after the famous bar that hosts monthly Full Moon parties. Great surfing is to be had at Apple Bay.
Cane Garden Bay: When it's on, it's on. Catch some big waves here when the conditions are right. Just be sure to mind the reef! Cane Garden Bay surfing is legendary.
Josiah's Bay: A great all-around spot with consistently good conditions. It's even a good spot for the kids in the family.
