Pure Vacations are pleased to offer you Brussels which is gaining itself a reputation as one of Europe's coolest short break city vacation destinations, with her human size, trendy bars and restaurants, fabulous food, great nightlife, fantastic shopping, numerous museums & other attractions such as the many festivals it's not hard to see why. Brussels is a city with a great deal of history but is set for a very bright future and is almost the capital of Europe. Brussels is less cosmopolitan than Paris, less historic than Rome, less dominating than London, in many ways Brussels is the ideal holiday compromise and has simply a nice blend for all your vacation needs.
Brussels is a crossroads city, it sits right on the dividing line between Northern Europe and the Latin South. It is a bilingual city with French and Dutch spoken mostly and English close behind. The centre is shaped like a pentagon, or more romantic a heart, & within this shape Brussels has everything a capital city should have in way of culture, restaurants and nightlife, but it is compact and very easy to get around.
Did someone mention eating out? Eating out is Brussels home turf, home is where the heart is and where ever Brussels heart leads, the stomach wont be far behind. Good food is more than a passion, its Brussels Pride and Joy. Your difficulty will be where to begin. The Sablon area perhaps where art and antique dealers rub shoulders with restaurateurs; seafood at Place Sainte-Catherin; You could venture into Ixelles and Uccle, where good restaurants are about as common as streetlights; or walk to the first eatery you see and test a theory that it's just about impossible to eat badly in Brussels.
The most pleasant thing about Brussels is its shopping. This is one of the only major European cities where department stores haven't taken over completely and there are still plenty of individual shops which sell specialty Belgium products, including Lace, Crystal, Chocolate, Hams, Pate and Diamonds. Beers and cheeses are also a great buy; they are generally of the highest quality and are often produced by artisans or in monasteries using traditional methods. Given that Brussels is relatively a small city it has enough shopping to keep the most avid shopper busy!
Brussels offer great nightlife options as you would expect from a small compact city. You can be entertained by Opera, visit the theatre or why not take in one of the many Jazz bars. If your thing is dancing then Brussels has a great number of nightclubs to dance to music till dawn in this small culture paradise. |
