Attack on Colombo - Sri Lanka "off sale"

Pure Vacations have announced that following the recent attack in Sri Lanka by the Tamil Tigers againt a military base near the international airport north of Colombo, and the fact that rebels warn of more raids will follow, as a company we are forced to take immediate action and suspend vacation packages until the situation improves and is seen to be safe again.

This is with great regret as since 1999 the destination has been on and off sale at least 5 times during this period and this naturally has a knock on effect on business for not only the country but also the region in general.

The international airport - which was not damaged - has been closed as a precaution. No civilians were hurt.
Tiger rebels attacked the airport and base in 2001, killing 18 and wiping out half of the national airline fleet.
A statement from the Tamil Tiger rebel group, carried by TamilNet, claimed responsibility for the attack on the Katunayake base, which is 30km (20 miles) north of the capital, Colombo.

Pure Vacations has launched a new amazng product.

Portugal Surf Camp

This wonderful rustic and basic surf camp environment is part of our Budget Range and has two traditional large houses located in wonderful communities of Carrapateira and Sagres. Both are just a few minutes walk from surfing beaches with all the comforts of home a budget travelling surfer requires.

The main surf camp is located on the outskirts of Carrapateira, located close to the surf beach and centre of the village, where you can find restaurants, bars and the local supermarket. The rooms offer basic interior fittings and we offer single shared or twin/double rooms. Most of the rooms have a balcony with a great ocean or landscape view! On top of the accommodation is a large balcony for you to relax and perhaps write a postcard to all your friends. Downstairs you will find a small private bar where you can enjoy meals, drinks and watch surf movies whilst talking about surfing with your fellow surf travellers.

The second surf camp is located in Sagres, a village near Cape Sao Vincente, the furthest west point of Europe. The accommodation is in a large house overlooking the beautiful coastline of the Algarve, with all the comforts of home and a large barbeque area. New Morocco Guest House

Pure Vacations have launched a new accommodation in Morocco. It is a well positioned Guest Residence located in the typically Moroccan feel of Banana Village (also known as Aourir) and situated 7 km north of Agadir. The Atlantic Ocean coast location with a mountainous back drop gives this village great appeal to all travellers of this location.

The village was given its name due to the large quantities of fresh sweet bananas which are found for sale on the side of the road and grown in the valley above. The spring water flowing through the rocks has been redirected to irrigate the banana trees which have been a main source of barter through the generations. The village is still called Aourir by the older Moroccans. Argan trees can be found growing behind the village.

Charity Golf Day Sponsors

Pure Vacations annouced today that it is officially sponsoring the 9th annual Demelza House Charity Golf Day to be held on 23rd April 2007.

Demelza House Charity is the only children's residential hospice in Kent, East Sussex and South London (United Kingdom) providing a wide range of services to life-limited children.

Fuerteventura Golf

Next week Pure Vacations will launch Golf in Fuerteventura.

The Fuerteventura Golf Course in Caleta de Fuste is the site of the first golf course in Fuerteventura which opened the end of April 2002. The course consists of 18 holes and is a par 70 with a distance of 6049 meters from the men's championship tees, with two loops of nine holes starting and finishing at the clubhouse. There are three large pretty lakes connected by a stream, all of which come into play. The course is basically flat with the exception of the 17th and 18th holes. The 17th, a par 5, climbs gently up to a well protected green and the 18th, a par 4, is downhill returning to the clubhouse. Buggy paths connect all holes.

The practice facilities include a 50 bay driving range, a large putting green and a second green for chipping and bunker shots. The clubhouse includes a large pro-shop, changing rooms with lockers available, various bars, cafeterias and restaurants. There is also an outside terrace and garden area.

Gambia - No for Surfing

After investigating The Gambia in North Africa with not 1 but 5 inspection visit since 2001, Pure Vacations have decided that the pollution levels are just so high for Surfers at this time that it is not suitable to be featured with in the Pure Vacations surfing product range, as much as the company really wanted to help the community in this lovely country it really has some major raw sewage issues.

The Gambia's environmental concerns include deforestation, desertification, and water pollution. Only 9% of the forests in The Gambia have survived the expansion of agricultural land and the use of trees for fuel. A 30% decrease in rainfall over the last 30 years has increased the rate of desertification for The Gambia's agricultural lands and Tourism has just simply added to this issue greatly. Water pollution is a significant problem due to lack of adequate sanitation facilities, and the beach hotels generally just dump the raw sewage out to sea. Impure water is responsible for life-threatening diseases that contribute to high infant mortality rates. The Gambia has 3 cubic kilometers of renewable water resources with 91% used for farming activity. Only about 53% of the people in rural areas have pure drinking water.

It is due to all this, that Pure Vacations feel it would be wrong to feature the destination with in its product offering, although the tourism will bring work to the country, it already has a very sustainable tourism effort in place, the issue is more the safety in the surf of the customers - so for the first time in the history of the company we have made a decision not to feature Gambia until we believe it has improved greatly. A very sad day as we had hoped to bring you this destination in 2007. We were also concerned over sea water crocodiles that were seen on numerous occasions near some rather good surf spots, locals did inform us that sharks and crocs are issues for local fisherman as well.

Pure Vacations will however look at other tourism project for The Gambia with in its every expanding product range, so we have not given up hope on the facilities and have not given up hope on one day including it with in surfing for the really adventurous type. As an operator we must be very positive and must think of safety at all times.

Price Canyon Ranch

Today we have officially launched Price Canyon Ranch in Arizona State, this is a new and exciting ranch and offers a truly wonderful all year long ranching experience.

Guests can participate in an authentic Western lifestyle experience, joining real cowboys as they complete ranch chores. The work changes with the seasons, from branding and weaning cattle to moving cattle up to summer pasture. Regular ranch chores include patrolling the ranch boundaries and checking the water lines that lead from Price Canyon Spring to the ranch-a distance of 7.5 miles.

Generally there are two working rides a day, each about two to three hours long. The trails range from grassy meadows to more challenging terrain. In lieu of a ride, you can instead participate in arena games, such as pole-bending, barrel racing, cattle sorting, team penning, etc. Learn "how to" from the real cowboys.

Pure Vacations have now launched Surf Guiding in Morocco for two of the three accommodation on offer, the surf guiding is in a 4x4 vehicle and you are collected daily and transferred to the best surf of the day that matches your standard of surfing.

The southern peninsula is amazingly consistent and the surf found to the far south of the region is relatively unexplored and offers some amazing surfing conditions in a beautiful back drop of culture and dessert. The Moroccan surfing experience provides quality surfing that is fun and enjoyable and is best suited for those surfers who want a warm year long destination with warm water temperatures and wonderful surf for all standards.

Travel Bonding - Answers

Why do travel companies need to be bonded?

The Package Travel Regulations were created following a European Directive (90/314/EEC), which answered numerous complaints throughout Europe and the world, of the lack of redress a consumer had in a Package Holiday contract.

The Directive was adopted by the UK in the form of the regulations on the 31st December 1992 and they have had considerable impact on the rights of consumers in this country.

The Regulations set out how the parties to the contract may be identified and goes onto deal with what information should be provided to the customer at the beginning of the contract.

The following are summaries of the regulations.
Within Regulation 2 a Package means a pre-arranged combination of at least two components. When they are sold or offered for sale they must be done so at an all-inclusive price, and when the contract is for more than 24 hours or has overnight accommodation, has either.

Transport;
Accommodation;
A tourist service not ancillary to transport or accommodation and accounting for a significant proportion of the package

Regulation 2 goes onto deal with the new issue of DIY packaging, in other words booking your holiday over the Internet. If you book a holiday in this way, is it still a package holiday and will it still attract the consumer protection of the regulations?

The Regulations states.
(i) the submission of separate accounts for different components shall not cause the arrangements to be other than a package;
(ii) the fact that a combination is arranged at the request of the consumer and in accordance with his specific instructions (whether modified or not) shall not of itself cause it to be treated as other than pre-arranged

The current consensus is that such holidays are Package Holidays and until the matter is challenged in court that interpretation stands.

In recent years Pure Vacations has found that more and more operators are competing in specialist travel markets that have little or no bonding, and this particular applies to the surf travel market where a whole host of companies with flashy websites and big promises have shot up, all of them operating outside of the travel regulations of 1992. The consumer is constantly at risk from these companies and what amazes us as a company is that some media organisations promote these companies totally oblivious of the fact that they are illegal operators.

The travel regulations are in place to protect consumers from the terrible scenes you can see on this blog, not just the financial protection it offers but also the professionalism of ensuring that your safety, and protection is always secure.

If you have booked or planned to book with Pure Vacations you do so knowing we abide by the travel regulations and also hold an ATOL and IATA licence for all air travel. If you however do book elsewhere because you simply could not find what you wanted with Pure Vacations which is perfectly understandable please, please do take care to ensure that your operator is fully protected, it takes only a few minutes to ask the questions, and judge for yourself the answers, but it can take you all year to recover from a bad vacation.

The hardest thing for any specialist tour operator like ours is knowing what and where to offer specific facilities, because lets face it travel is an exciting product to deal with and even more fun to experience first hand.

New Surf Resort Launched

Today, after lots of negotiating we have finally launched another excellent surf resort in the Maldives but this one is in the Southern Atolls and involves a Seaplane Transfer from the Maldives international airport. This resort offers Pure Vacations customers a great alternative to the existing surfing options, uncrowded surf and lots of prestine beaches and waves with no-one else in the water.

Forget everything you have ever heard about the Maldives, The island of Gan is completely different. With its 5 km length and 3 km width it is the largest island in the Addu Atoll which is situated at the very southern end of the Maldives - south of the Equator. The transfer to Equator Village will be by air from Male international airport in an unforgettable flight over the atolls and islands, with surf spots opening up before your eyes.

The Island resort is connected to other local villages by unique causeways so you can freely move to see the local culture and way of life of the Maldivian people. Pure Vacations are actively contracting new exciting products for Canada during the event Spot Light Canada, where all the top and smaller Canadian specialist companies will be trying hard to convince us that they have the next best exciting adventure (upmarket!) products for Pure Vacations to package together.

Surf Event - Morocco

Pure Vacations and Royal Air Maroc are in co-operation to bring 8 top amateur surfers from the USA and United Kingdom to compete against a similiar standard from Morocco during November 2007. The event will be held in teh southern region of Morocco, likely to be Killer Point (famed for its Killer Whales that swim far out to sea).

This will be a special event seeing some great week long surfing for on lookers as these talented individuals enjoy some of the world's best surfing conditions. The surfing break is still to be decided but it looks like the break of Killer Point might well be the number 1 choice with the event managed from Pure Vacations new luxury apartments and villas overlooking the break.

When the event is held Pure Vacations will arrange some special come and view vacational packages to encourage surfers of all standard and professional back ground to experience the Moroccan culture and true feeling of being in a friendly and African location.

Dog Sledding Quebec

Having just returned from the most amazing trip to the east coast of Canada, I felt the need to express with in this blog the experience in full and enjoyment of the natural setting of Quebec and Ottawa.

Rarely am I so awestruck with the natural beauty of a destination so easily, it normally takes a few days to let the feeling and vibe of the culture and destination seep through but not Canada and certainly not this region.

The main objective of the trip was to experience first hand the world of Dog Sledding and to see how as a company we could offer this to you our customers in a special and fun way, compared to all the other travel companies. This is always Pure Vacations unique angle on exciting vocational ideas, How can we offer it better!.

My most memorial moment of this recent visit was at Lake Blanc, where we arrived to see a beautiful lodge by a frozen lake and as I stood on the shoreline (well I think I was on the shoreline, its hard to tell with so much snow and ice about 3 ft deep!), I watched three girls with there mother ice skating and then I herd in the distance a noise, some calling out. Looking up I could see in the far distance a group of 7 dog sleds and riders crossing the lake with the sun bearing down on them it looked like a scene from Scott of the Antarctic.

The photograph on this blog is taken from the moment they approached the lodge and you can see and imagine how wonderful that moment was, and also imagine I hope how wonderful the moment of dog sledding will be for you when you book your Pure Vacations to Quebec for 2007/2008 winter!

Playing for Texas State

Pure Vacations have been asked to play golf in an exclusive event representing the US state of Texas at the famous Eagle Glen Golf Club in California, during April. Naturally we feel this is a great honour to be asked by the Lone Star State to play golf and to represent them, considering that we are not the world's best golfers.

Palm Springs

In April Pure Vacations are off to Orange County in California complimentary (thanks to British Airways and Palm Springs Tourism) to go to an exclusive "invite only" trade event "Pow Wow" to help bring you some more amazing United States tourism products.

However on route we will be visiting Palm Springs to inspect its wonderful tourism facilities and to try and arrange to bring Golf and other vacational ideas to you. They don't call Palm Springs the "golf capital of the world" for nothing. Not only are there more than 100 courses in the greater Palm Springs area, they're also among the world's most beautiful. In fact, if you watch golf tournaments on television, you've already seen many of them. The region also includes biking and hiking, rock-climbing and rollerhockey, tennis, and swimming, if you love sports and recreation, you’ll love Palm Springs for its wonderful weather and around-the-year fun.

This year we were caught a little off guard with the huge demand for surfing charters in the Maldives. Not that it caused us any issues, as we certainly have the capacity to deal with this increase. This month we launched Yoga in Portugal and in Bali and we have an additional new Yoga facility planned in Europe that will be launched soon. Pure Vacations truthful opinion: Nice option at a very good price but the beds are not totally flat and narrow at times, but the service is worldclass and the flight is short at just 7 hours so its not an issue really. The Cabin Crew are very good, smiling and helpful and the lounge in Luton is very good with Wi-fi the same as in Newark (New York). Pure Vacations rate the experience certainly as a 4 out 5 in comfort (although the beds do have massage built in electronic), 5 out of 5 for Service, 4 out of 5 for Cuisine, Lounge facility in Luton 5 out 5, in New York 3 out of 5 (although service in New York better than Luton).

Overall 3.5 out of 5 (worth travelling with and value for money)

Executives and Entrepreneurs

If you want to catch a Broadway musical or ride a mule down the Grand Canyon, you don’t need us to suggest that. But if you want a memorable, relaxing weekend and are stuck for ideas, we have more than a few offered with in Pure Vacations.

Avoid Travel Stress

Travel is stressful, even when you are going on vacation. So how can you manage the wear and tear on your body and your mind?

Here are some tips:

Exercise: You don't have to do a fully fledged workout on vacation but you do need to get that stress out of your system, so go for a walk or take the hotel stairs rather than the lift everytime. Most of Pure Vacations hotels have fitness centres but if you are travelling to a hotel that does not then why not contact a local gym that accommodates walk in's.

Get a Massage: Sitting in a plane, car, train or bus for hours takes its toll. A massage works out muscle strain, improves circulation and promotes relaxation. Find qualified massage therapists at day spas, fitness centres and upscale salons.

Give yourself ample down time: Rushing like a mad man to catch that plane, or other transport is really not the best way to enjoy a vacation. Arrive at the airport early, and use wait time in the terminal productively to catch up on emails, shop a little, get a haircut, or just have a nice cup of something hot and sit down and read.

Tune Out: Bring a long an IPOD or Noise-canceling headphones, such as those made by BOSE. Music drowns out all those sound syou dont want to hear on your vacation travels... crying babies, shouting shildren, people talking loud for no-reason. Headphones also reduce the drone of engines on a plane substantially.

Do all you can to get a good nights sleep: Bring ear plugs (maybe from the plane if long haul!) eye shades in case the room does not have black out blinds / curtains and just let your mind drift off to sleep in peace.

Have some fun: See a movie that you would not normally watch, check out the local theatre / cinema or even the comedy club, visit a museum or visit a zoo or aquarium, open your eyes to exploring the region.

Finally and very important: Take care of all your creature comforts, bring a soft sweater, a neck pillow, energy bars and relax.
